Whole lotta shakin' goin' on

I've been noticing a lot of earthquakes lately: Greece, Lebanon, Malaysia, Indonesia, West Sumatra, New Zealand, and even Nevada today.

Fortunately, a member of Israel's Parliament has made sense of this trend: gays exist, and this causes earthquakes. If I lived in Israel, I'd be a little worried that an earthquake could deal a blow to their nuclear reactor in Dimona, and possibly those nukes they have.

OCCUPIED JERUSALEM: An ultra-Orthodox member of Israel's Parliament on Wednesday blamed homosexuals for last week's earthquake that shook his country and the region.

Speaking at a parliamentary committee on preparedness for quakes, Shas MP Shlomo Benizri lashed out at homosexuality, considered an abomination under Jewish law and in its religious text, the Gemara.

"We are looking for earthly solutions, how to prevent them," Benizri said. "I have another way to prevent earthquakes. The Gemara says that one of the reasons earthquakes happen - which the Knesset [Parliament] legitimizes - is homosexuality."

"God says you shake your genitals where you are not supposed to and I will shake my world in order to wake you up," he added.

The Knesset decriminalized homosexuality in 1988, and has since passed several laws recognizing gay rights.

A tremor measuring 5.0 on the open-ended Richter scale rocked Lebanon, Israel and Syria on Friday, drawing new warnings by seismology experts of a major earthquake within years because of a major fault-line in the region.

Shas is known for its radically theocratic and Zionist agenda. The party's leadership has threatened to leave Premier Ehud Olmert's ruling coalition if Jerusalem is discussed in negotiations with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. - AFP
