Polish public says get out of Iraq

Support for Poland's participation in Bush's Iraqi occupation has now dwindled to single digits.
Likewise, support for the idea of using Poland as a proxy against Russia is also slight.
The "anti-missile shield" is ostensibly to protect Poland against an Iranian attack. In reality, it places missiles in Poland under the control of a foreign country (the U.S.) that are far more likely to be used against SCO nations. Rather than fearing the unlikely scenario of Iranians attacking Poland for whatever odd reason, the Polish public is instead afraid that the "shield" will make it a target.

Note also that the vast majority of Poles want the quickest possible pullout of troops, not a withdrawal based on benchmarks or the opinion of 'the boots on the ground'. We now have another "ally" that is backing Bush against the will of its own people. One must wonder what pressure is being brought to bear on the Polish government by the Bush Administration. We will surely find out after Bush is out of office, whether it is blackmail, extortion, or bribery. Coalition of the Willing, indeed.

Poll shows 73% of Poles favor quick pullout of Iraq

Seventy three percent of Poles is for the quickest possible pullout of Poland's soldiers from Iraq, according to results of a poll conducted by the CBOS public opinion polling center, which are available on Thursday.

Eight percent of those polled would accept the prolongation of Poland's military presence beyond 2008.

The poll also showed that only 24 percent of Poles support the deployment in Poland of elements of the US anti-missile shield.

Sixty-one percent of those polled said they are afraid that building such installations would increase the threat of a terrorist attack in Poland.
